Price rises

Every network’s April price rise, in pounds

Since January 2025, mobile and broadband providers must state annual rises in pounds and pence before you sign. Here is each network’s rise and what it adds over two years.

bemobiles tips

When do prices go up?

Most networks raise prices in April; EE does it on 31 March. Sky Mobile’s rise came in February.

Can I leave when prices rise?

Only if the rise wasn’t set out in pounds in your contract — then you have 30 days from being told to leave without a penalty.

Which networks don’t raise prices?

giffgaff, SMARTY, Lebara and VOXI have no annual rise, and iD Mobile has none on SIM only.

For a plan starting this month. Three’s rise depends on your data (we use £1.90); Tesco Mobile’s is about 6% of your price; Sky Mobile’s and Talkmobile’s aren’t fixed in the contract, so we can’t price them.

How the rules work

Since 17 January 2025, Ofcom requires any price rise during a contract to be set out in pounds and pence at the point of sale. That replaced rises linked to inflation, which made the cost impossible to know in advance.

If a provider raises prices by an amount that wasn’t in your contract, you can leave without paying an exit fee within 30 days of being told. Rises written into the contract don’t give you that right.

How to avoid them

  • Choose a network with no annual rise if you want a fixed price.
  • On a 24-month contract you pay the higher price for most of the second year — add it to the total before you compare.
  • When your contract ends, move to SIM only: out-of-contract customers keep paying rises on top of a phone already paid for.

Price rises in brief

  • Since 17 January 2025, any mid-contract rise must be set out in pounds and pence before you sign.
  • EE adds £4 a month to phone plans every 31 March; O2 and Vodafone £2.50 every April; Three £1.80–£2.30.
  • If a rise wasn’t written into your contract, you can leave penalty-free within 30 days of being told.
  • giffgaff, SMARTY, Lebara and VOXI don’t raise prices every year.

What changed in 2025

Until January 2025 most networks linked their yearly rise to inflation — typically CPI plus a few per cent — so nobody knew the exact amount when they signed. Ofcom banned inflation-linked rises in new contracts from 17 January 2025. Networks can still raise prices, but the amount must be stated in pounds and pence at the point of sale, so you can add it to the total before you choose.

Tesco MobileAprilAbout 6% of your price
Sky MobileNot fixed+£1.50 from February 2026, not set in the contract

If you sign close to the date, your first rise may not come until the following year — check the date in your contract summary.

How to check your own contract

Before you sign, the network must give you a contract summary. It shows the monthly price, the length of the contract and any rise in pounds with the date it applies. If you have already signed, the summary is in your welcome email or your online account. Out of contract, you’ll also get a yearly message showing the best deals available to you.

When you can leave without paying

  • The rise was written into your contract in pounds: you can’t leave penalty-free because of it — it was part of the deal.
  • The rise wasn’t in your contract, or is bigger than stated: you can leave without an exit fee within 30 days of being told.
  • You are out of contract: you can leave at any time with 30 days’ notice, rise or no rise.

How to avoid rises

  1. Choose a network with no annual rise: SIM only with no price rises.
  2. Prefer a 30-day plan — you can leave before a rise takes effect.
  3. Compare deals by their 24-month total, rises included: every phone and SIM ranking on bemobiles does this for you.

Broadband works the same way since 2025: BT, EE, Plusnet, TalkTalk and Virgin Media add £4 a month each spring. See broadband with no price rises.
