How text-to-switch works

Since July 2019, Ofcom’s rules let you switch mobile network without calling your current provider. You text a short code to 65075 and get a reply with your code, plus any early exit fee and what happens to pay as you go credit. You never need to speak to a retention team.

Step by step

  1. Choose the new network. Check the mast owner’s coverage for home and work: which brands use which masts.
  2. Get your code. Text PAC to 65075 from the phone you’re switching.
  3. Order the SIM or eSIM. Give the PAC when you order, or later in the new network’s app.
  4. Switch day. Your number moves within one working day. Put the new SIM in when the old one stops working, or follow the eSIM instructions.

Common problems

  • Business or shared accounts: only the account holder or an authorised user can request the code.
  • Expired code: codes last 30 days — just text again.
  • Still in contract: the reply to your text shows the exit fee; switching ends the contract and the fee is added to your final bill.
  • Device plan: on split contracts you keep paying the device plan until the phone is paid off, even after you move your number.
  • Pay as you go credit: unused credit usually stays with the old network, so use it up first or ask what can be refunded.

Switching broadband too?

Broadband uses a different system: with One Touch Switch you contact only the new provider and it arranges everything. See our broadband guide.
